Introduction
In as much as society needs engineers and lawyers, we also need electricians, plumbers, and mechanics among other industry professionals. Workshop classes are highly beneficial to learners when added to the academic curriculum at New Life Academy. They can build the hands-on confidence, problem-solving capabilities and strength of the learners. Workshop classes also highly help to instil a feeling of self-esteem and accomplishment in the students by learning of new and practical lessons. Through practice and the experience the learners will gain, their ability to solve real-world problems will be improved, and they will also learn much confidence to do so. Therefore, there is a need to implement workshop classes within the academic curriculum at New Life Academy since it will help install excellent skills to the learners that are highly applicable in the real world.
Issue and History
Regular and current class attendance is of high importance to the learners since they can go through the required and stipulated curriculum. However, practical and industrial learning is also highly essential for a student. Some of the students are better in practical classes as compared to theoretical and classwork. With this, there is need to add and workshop classes that will help the learners better their talents and learn new and applicable physical courses and at the same time include all students and help them become the best version of themselves (Hill 1). This is because students who thrive in practical and industrial work will also be included in the curriculum. Workshop classes will help in replacing some of the classes that the learners do not enjoy. These classes can be replaced to help the students continue with their learning process, but this time with much enthusiasm and eagerness. Some of these workshops include a woodshop, mechanics classes, baking classes and other industrial works.
Nonetheless, some of the challenges that will be encountered starting workshop classes will require money to start the project. With this, there will need to raise funds to implement the classes. Also, upon implementation of the classes, not all students would choose to join the workshop classes.
Alternative Solutions
To solve the challenges that would arise with the implementation of the workshop classes in the school curriculum, the school has an alternative of permitting of off-campus workshop classes. The students can be allowed to attend this class’s off-campus through the implementation of transportation with the use of the bus or allowing the students to drive themselves to attend the classes. This way, the school will not cater to anything other than the transportation and the students will be able to participate in the needed workshop classes. The students will be able to attend their desired workshop classes without the school having to cater to them or providing them at the campus (Setiawaty3).
However, with the implementation of this solution, there would be several shortcomings arising. Much time would be wasted driving to the workshop class venue; thus, there are high chances of a class being missed within the school day. This would also be expensive for the students since for those who will drive; they will encounter more fuel and gas charges. Also, there will be the expense of paying for the classes. This would result in a good number of them who are interested in the classes not to being able to attend them due to the increased expenses and time used.
Solution
Implementation of workshop classes at NLA would be the best solution. This is because these classes are highly beneficial to the students. They will allow room for the provision of a much-needed break from the usual classroom routine (Safari & Hosseini 167). Also, it will provide relevancy of the subject’s matter to their lives and with this preparing them for a lifetime of learning. In addition to this, these classes will help the students gain high confidence in real-world problems and how to find solutions.
Arguments supporting solution
To further demonstrate the need for implementation of the workshop classes, it vital to note that above all, the students would be able to gain knowledge from the real world issues with the application of practical work such as mechanics, baking among others. The students will also learn to be self-reliant and not have to rely on any person to undertake any activity or make a decision. They will also be able to learn the value of persistence since through practicality; one can see where they have failed and are ready to try again and make corrections. Through these classes, a student can identify their career choice and can begin their career paths earlier on in their lives. A good example is with workshop classes, a student who likes baking can learn how to bake and therefore, can start learning in line with his or her career path earlier on.
Conclusion
With the upcoming changes in the society where most people are rushing to office and high-end professions, there is a need to emphasize on industrial occupations. With this, it is vital to ensure that students are given a chance to explore their potential and learn of all the available careers and from there, choose the best path for themselves. The involvement of workshop classes at NLA will introduce new skills to students that will help them in the real world. Therefore, let’s introduce workshop classes for students to get practical, hands-on experience with their classes
