Several factors can affect how a location can develop. Jerusalem’s location is in Israel. The earliest inhabitants were in Jerusalem around 3500 B.C. King David, however, took Jerusalem in 1000 B.C. He made the location to be the capital of his kingdom. Forty years later, Solomon, the son of David, built the temple in Jerusalem. In the first century A.D, Christians from Europe made pilgrimages to Jerusalem. Between 1099 and 1187, many Christians went to Jerusalem, making it a central religious location.
Individuals who were living in medieval Islamic culture had various responsibilities depending on their beliefs, gender, economic, and social status. One of the most vital social factors was religion. The non-Muslims treatment in multiple areas was different from that of Muslims. In times of political conflict and economic turmoil, non-Muslims treatment was harsh. However, Christians and Jews were able to negotiate with the Muslims, and they had freedom of worship and were able to build and repair their places of worship.
The religious belief of Christians
The religious belief of Christians was different from those of Islamic beliefs; the individuals were practicing Christianity in Jerusalem. The two religions had different perceptionsout Jesus though they had some similarities. About worshiping, Christians were using churches while the Muslims were using the mosques. There was also the election and appointment of leaders and successors of various prophets (Caliphs). Islam follows the rules (Sharia). Leaders consult their subjects while the subjects have the responsibility to obey their leader. Among Christianity, the bible written by Hebrews has various outlines of various leaders such as King Saul, King David, King Solomon, among others. These Hebrew leaders had both moral and political responsibilities. Some Jews also in Jerusalem saw Jesus as a political leader (Rouse,2018). Accusations that were facing Jesus during his crucifixion was that he was against the Roman authorities.
From the historical development of Christian and Islamic culture, I have gained an insight into how vital religion and politics are in any social organization set up. Individuals need someone to lead them, rules, and beliefs to follow in their daily activities. In return, individuals get a sense of belonging to society. Religion binds individuals together as they have similar views and opinions about some supreme being. In this regard, religion plays a vital role in the social and cultural development of any location.
