. Despite the United States being the most influential country globally and economically, it has flaws, especially when it comes to discrimination in terms of race. The legitimacy of the blacks is always questioned. People find it impossible to believe blacks have accomplished, educated, successful, and no criminal history.The worst part of being black in America is not being believed. People do not believe it when black people feel that they have been victims of covert racism. Even though blacks may have qualities that can be essential to the country such as represent the United States in sports and other activities, their experience of American life could never accurately be represented on TV as well as still promote the American Dream of assimilation and consumerism.
Newspaper and television editors have claimed absolutely that they do not publish photos of black people more often than white people in connection with crimes. They are surprised when a count is done, and they find that they are 66% more likely to use a photo with a crime story, if the suspect is black (NBC 00:00:30-00:10:00). They claim that it is unintentional; that to them, it seems that they use photos with white crime stories, equally to photos with black crime stories.What is the point of examining the issue? The point is that editors use photos with black crime stories, so much more often than with white crimes stories, that the general public believes (falsely), that crime is an almost exclusively black problem.
In virtually every area of life, black people in America are being convinced, in one way and another, that they do more wrong, and are more of a problem than they ever actually have been(Bodroghkozy, 144).Black male children are “arrested” by officers in elementary schools, far more readily than white children. They are even told in so many words, that they might as well get used to it because it will be the same when they get older that is, they are the ones who soon will be going to real jail.The negative portrayal of black people in American society is having the effect of creating a privileged class of white people who, by comparison, come off looking like they deserve to be treated better than blacks.One of the problems is that after these things are pointed out, nothing changes. The editors, who were shown that they were publishing far more pictures of blacks in connection with the crime, were revisited six weeks later. An examination of their recent editions showed that they had continued to include pictures of black people in connection with crimes stories, at the same rate of about 66% more than they used photos of white people with crime stories.
A similar situation has been found to exist on television and online reporting. If the crime story involves a black person, it is roughly 2/3 more likely to include his photo, than if the suspect is white (Altman, 40). In other words, if a story is published about a white person who has committed or been accused of a crime, the chances are that much less likely that a photo of the perpetrator (or suspect) will appear with the story. Thus, if readers glance over the story, noting the headline and a photo, they are very likely honestly to believe that crime is essentially a black issue.
Nothing is going to stop editors from using black people as their favourite crime story illustrations. Blacks do hope, however, that individuals will bear in mind the fact that in this, as well as many other ways, crime stories are presented to make readers believe black people are the ones who commit nearly all of the crime in the nation (Altman, 40). This perception is causing black men to be targeted and even killed, more readily than white men, because even the police have this misperception firmly rooted in their minds, and this is part of the split-second “information” on which they to base the decision about whether to use a taser or a gun, in a chaotic and potentially dangerous situation.

Also, when non-white characters were added in the play, the screenwriters would be forced to deal with the delicate relations between different races, I guess it bothered them a lot, cause very few TV shows focused on issues like this, too serious that spectators might have been scared away, not entertaining at all nor could you insert jokes or plot over the line, or against some ethnic minorities, according to political correctness which is entirely wrong, let alone those minority groups and communities.
In regards to the American dream, The American Dream is a reality, but it is not limited to America any more. The basic definition of the American Dream has the notion that any person that can be willing to improve his or her life socially as well as financially through working hard (Freeform, 00:02:00-00:09:00). At one time in history, it might become impossible in other countries due to hard class divisions that eventually would become hereditary. What would make one black person feel positive about the American dream and another feel negative about the American dream when we are all black? It all depends on how a person views America.If you primarily view America as a racist society, a society in which one’s race is your primary attribute, then all of the negativity that has been historically attached to being black in America is constantly in your face. You are constantly trying to discern if what happened to you today is connected to the historical abuse and stigmatization of black people in America. This is a cumbersome burden to bear. You see racism in every negative interaction between blacks and non-blacks. It is easy to feel defeated when you consider long-term professional goals when no matter what you achieve, you will still be black and subjected to racism. It is easy to stay secluded and insularly in a black cocoon of comfort.
The American dream is usually affiliated with the social mobility as it contains a dream that is of the opinion that anyone poor can eventually become successful in life what he or she necessitates is to have the adequate money. Qualifications are not needed. However, if you are black and you view America as primarily a Free Market Society, a society in which one’s skills, values, and social behaviours are your primary attribute than you will have a positive outlook on the American dream. Like the modern-day African immigrant, you will seek out from others the skills, values and social behaviours that lead to success in a Free Market Society. To be successful in a free market society, you have to appropriate the skills, values and social behaviours that lead to success in a free market society. Just like the newly emancipated slaves did through organizations like the Freedman’s Bureau and other post-Civil War organizations.
A significant problem with the American dream for many blacks is a false belief that you have to be white, a sell-out, or Oreo to achieve the American Dream. The American Dream is giving up your cultural background and heritage to satisfy white people allegedly. White Americans do not own a copyright on success. However, many blacks believe that they have to purchase a license from white America to be successful. Successful people in free-market societies around the globe obtain the skills, values and social behaviours needed to be successful in their countries. Successful Japanese people in Japan don’t act white they act like successful Japanese people. The unsuccessful Japanese people in Japan don’t act black they act like unsuccessful Japanese people.Until Aliens come from a distant planet, heterogeneous America is doomed to suffer racist and racism. It is not about getting rid of racism; it is about how to live a fulfilling life despite the existence of racism.
While some bias and partiality might still exist in some factions of corporate America today, that probably isn’t the primary reason why African Americans lag behind other races when it comes to employment and income rates(Freeform, 00:02:00-00:19:00). The primary reason might be because most African American communities don’t seem to have the means or motivation to foster entrepreneurship, encourage careers in the STEM fields, keep up with the latest technology trends and scientific discoveries, and invent new products and services. You can’t reasonably expect consistent and pervasive success when you’re behind the curve in those areas. Those are typically the areas where folks of all ethnic groups can make the highest incomes, get the most opportunities, and make the most significant contributions to society and that will likely remain the case in the long term.
In conclusion, being black in America and would not change it for the world, but nothing can describe the feeling when these stereotypical instances arise. And when some in the majority want to deny or play down the significance, it makes the experience of American life could never accurately be represented on TV as well as still promote the American Dream of assimilation and consumerism. Society is segregated in the U.S. seeing how easy it is to avoid people of other ethnicities by merely choosing a different store to be frequent. Something has to be done regarding the matter. Black in America is about people seeing you, and then creating their own grandiose story of who you are and what you care about. Now you have the tough task of disproving their assumptions. It’s a constant job that never, ever seems to end. Black people have survived despite the American system, not because of it. That the majority population in this country and the perpetrators of the majority will have sought to annihilate Black dissent and intimidate peaceful Black reformers every single step of the way.
