Introduction
Racism has been the critical headache to most of the Black Americans in America; the discrimination levels between the two has increased to the point of causing an alarm to the citizens. Everyday Racism in America (town hall meeting) is a film that tells us and educates us on the problem of racial discrimination in America. The film speaks wide of races in America; that is, it mostly talking about the White Americans and the Black or Africans Americans. Giving an example of racism incidences in America, the speakers spoke with the regards of the Black Americans unfair treatment in the United States of America.
To begin with, lets briefly talk about race; this the group of people who are brought together or come together based on prevailing social and physical qualities into categories that are viewed as a district in the society. Looking back to America, the distinct groups are considered as the White Americans and the Black Americans. Due to the different races, Racism has been a big problem in the United States. Racism is the certainty that all members of each race own some abilities and certain characteristics or specific qualities that especially distinguish them from other races and as being superior as compared to others.
Discrimination is the partial treatment of deliberately making distinctions between groups of people based on race, class of a specific group. Discrimination is prevalent in America, where Black Americans are discriminated against and looked down upon. Discrimination pulls out the aspect of prejudice among the people. Prejudice is the feeling of affection towards a group of people; the attachment is always based on the person’s race or group membership. Intolerance often occurs after making a lot of evaluations on the person in terms of sex, political affiliation, and education criminality, and so on. There are explicit biases that are also common among the Americans, which is the attitude or one’s perception about a person or group of people on a person’s conscious level. On the other hand, is the Implicit biases that are the act of stereotyping that affects our level of understanding and clouds the truth that is in front of us.
Application of the key terms
Racism is the main key factor that has been troubling the citizens of America; both the white and black America, following the film everyday racism in America, Racism has portrayed itself in many instances. For instance, in the film, when the speaker says that the country the Black Americans can be treated; however, the whites want,for example, she says that they can do anything to the blacks. This is because they do not consider them humans. The aspect of finding one a human leaves me flabbergasted as it portrays a high level of Racism. Discrimination, on the other hand, is projected by the fact that the Black Americans are looked down upon and ignored based on their skin color, a clip elaborates it in the film that a young man at college had to hide his hand due to his skin color, the black Americans are said to be discriminated. They are made clearly to understand that they are different from others.
In the everyday Racism in America, prejudice is portrayed highly when a lady stand to testify on how she has been mistreated when she goes to shopping; she says with a lot of pain and tears rolling out his eyes that when she is busy doing her shopping alone I a particular shop and a white comes after her, the shop attendant would ignore her and talk to the white American who just arrived and that so while apologizing. In this case, the shop attendant is seen showing a lot of affection to white America while ignoring the Black Americans, not because they do not have the dollars but simply because they belong to the Black Americans. I felt sorry for Donisha, Kelly, and Komi for their unfortunate misfortune when they encountered the police; they tried hard to explain that they were innocent to in vain due to the Black nature they were considered criminals, it is with no doubt that the police carefully an explicit bias where they consciously accused the Black Americans even though they were innocent.
The Americans are seen to have the implicit bias by attributing all the crimes with the Black Americans; Black Americans are associated with theft and the wrongs that happen in America.
Reaction to the film
Watching this film has made me end up crying and so emotional; the instances of that the Black Americans go through are scary, so to say it is tough to live in such an environment where there’s is constant pestering and being shown where you truly belong. The content of the film is excellent and helpful for anyone out there and for all citizens who are slaves for Racism (Rocchio, 2018). It is a sad thing that the would world is flooded with a lot of Racism and discrimination of all kinds due to this fact the film is instrumental in all of the parts of the world for learning and internalizing the effects of and dangers of Racism and discrimination. The most memorable role and that has touched my heart is the part of the woman being discriminated while doing shopping, it was a pity thing to see her in a lot of pain and crying for her rights and the pain of being ignored due to her nature. I would recommend the film to my friends since it has been useful to me. I have learned a lot in the movie, which will be a lot helpful in the future. Since it is a complex piece, I would recommend for the college students and above. Sharing it with the younger ones may get them stressed, especially for those who are in the same situation.
Conclusion
In conclusion, as per the incidences that are taking place in America, I would suggest for the people in America, especially those who play a role in discriminating the blacks, that they should learn to practice Color brave and stop being color blind. Colorblind is the process by which people pretend not to see the other races that are ignoring the problem that we are facing. Color brave is the process of raising questions instead of suffering in silence. The responsibility of those that are in authority is to enforce laws that would discourage the act of discrimination and Racism, the government should take severe actions to those that try to belittle and discriminate others, the educational institutions should teach the students the advantages and disadvantages of Racism and its consequences. The other non-profit organizations and the celebrities should purpose to work with the government in improving the situation of Racism in the country. As a person am obliged to condemn any practices of Racism in the country, this is to improve the well being of the country and to make the country a peaceful place to live for every race.
