The other reason why I am against juvenile boot camps is that they are not cost-effective. The extra cost needed to open a juvenile boot camp outweighs the benefits. Notably, the program is more expensive and labor-intensive to open and operate.
Pros of Juvenile Boot Camps
The programs instill self-control, respect, responsibility, and authority among teenagers. The militarist exposure given to the young who are placed under the program makes most of them improve self-control. According to Yeh, Fung &Malekzadeh (2017), many youths benefit from the discipline and the intense structure offered on the boot camps. The best candidates for the juvenile program are the teens who involve themselves in illegal activities that lead to crime. The second advantage is that the program serves as an alternative for rebellious or extremely defiant teens. The rigid and rigorous daily workplan that includes physical labor instills discipline to the juveniles. In advance, the program prevents future clime that would be caused by unruly teens(Van Noorden, 2014).
Cons of Juvenile Boot Camps
Campbell(2015) revealed that juvenile boot camps have more disadvantages than benefits.
