The sin of man
The coming of Jesus was to redeem man and bring him back to God. After creation, a man had fallen from God’s love and thus did not have communion with him. The idea of God creating man as we read in the genesis story is that he may have a companion with him. However, the devil comes and leads man into eating the forbidden fruit and thus falls into sin. After a man discovers what is evil and good, his relationship with God is cut. When God comes to the garden, he finds that man had sinned. He had to punish him by chasing him away from the garden. After the punishment, God had to find a way that he can bring back man to the first love and thus experience the love of God. This is the reason Jesus had to come. Therefore in this passage, we see how Jesus came and the missing that he came for.
In the first case, we read about the aspect of grace. After the sin of man and being away from God, the only way one man could commune with God was through sacrifices. During the time of Moses, God gives him the Ten Commandments that should guide him towards salvation. At this time, there was no grace, and a man was to live and the law. However, living under the law was very difficult for man because, in many cases, he could break at least one or another law. From the reading of the bible, breaking one law means that you have broken all the laws[1]. Therefore, God realizes that he needs to do something else to save man. The idea of the coming of Jesus is to bring grace so that everyone who trusts in Him can be saved.When we read about grace, we understand that it is not limited to the Israelites but is given to the gentiles. The idea of grace is that one is not saved by their works but rather trough grace. Besides, justification does not come through one following the law but by grace. Therefore the coming of Jesus is to make sure that anyone that believes in him can receive the grace that can grant him access to Christ.
Besides, the idea of getting sanctification involves the change of the inner man. Change of the inner man means accepting Christ in one’s life. As Paul says, that says in Roman 12 1-2, there is a need for one to experience the renewal of the mind. The change of thought requires that oneabandons the desires of the world and being focused on understanding more of Christ and living as a Christian. Living as Christian involves following the footsteps of Jesus in everything that we do[2]. It is from this view that one experiences a change in the inner person. The emotional person involves the deep conviction in our heart about Christ being the savior and thus following his teaching. Therefore, with the change of the inner man, one cannot receive salvation.
In conclusion, when we think about conversion, we think about the change in our minds and following the teaching of Christ. When we experience a change in mind, we receive the grace that gives us access to Christ. Therefore, the most important thing for any Christian is to accept the difference in our minds.
