Plan for formative evaluation of the DNP project
The proposed DNP project is aimed at implementing ways to minimize the number of unscheduled return visits in hospital emergency departments. The proposition of the project is that medical attendants should be used to help manage patients and reduce congestion in the Emergency Departments. This will be possible based on the fact that they are skilled in ways to manage patients due to their daily interactions with them in the Emergency Departments (EDs).Some of the ways in which the project proposes that medical attendants can help manage the problem are as follows; they can help patients and their guardians understand the guidelines for release from the hospital by going through the necessary procedures required for their release. This includes documentation, and as such, they should use the opportunity to explain to the patients what is required of them as stipulated by their doctors(Ahsan et al., 2019). For instance, explaining how they should handle the medication, among other instructions provided by the doctors. The clarification of all the details should also be given to the family or guardians of the patients so that they can be there to ensure the instructions by the doctor are followed to the latter. This thus reduces the chance of the patient returning to the ED due to failure to follow instructions. Concerns the patient may have should also get addressed before he/she gets released from the hospital.
Plan for summative evaluation of the DNP project
The summative evaluation approach would be used to compare the outcomes of patients and quality of health as is after implementing the proposal with how it was before the project got implemented. These will be measured in terms of the percentage of unscheduled returns to the emergency departments before and after. This evaluation will be documented in an evaluation chart with details of the functioning of the EDs before and after the project got implemented. The opinions of patients on how the project affected the quality of healthcare provided to them are also essential in identifying problems and establishing how successful the project was in meeting its goals(Davidson-Shivers et al., 2018). Positive patient outcomes and quality care are the goals that need to be achieved, and as such, summative evaluation establishes whether the project was worthwhile.
