Although the limitation ensued in his time, Ellsberg was able to contribute to the public government’s secret, thereby exposing its possible ill-plans.
Since whistleblowers improve society and at sometimes, disrupt it, I feel that someone can be both a traitor and hero. Heroism is demonstrated when a whistleblower is driven by loyalty. For example, those whistleblowers that decide to expose the evil plans or doings of fellow staffs to the management act out of commitment. Besides, they express heroism by encouraging the population to watch out for each other, and as a result, set the record straight that thing must be established and done in the right way at all times. On the other hand, these whistleblowers turn traitors in cases like making privy state secrets since such actions undermine national security. Thus, depending on the motive, a whistleblower can be either a traitor or a hero.
I feel that it is necessary to have traitors in democracy. Since traitors would work in exposing the plans and actions of their groups, they would help the public to have a better understanding of what is happening outside their reach. Traitors would also act in exposing the partisanship in the government that undermines the safety and values of the people. Therefore, through traitors, the common man would be able to see read the unwritten rules and actions from the government and also know when the constitutional provisions are under threat.
Since a whistleblower plays critical roles, such individuals have to bear some characters for them to be effective in our campus. For instance, they have to be driven by altruism while being able to overcome any insecurity concern through exhibitionism for them to release the information they have. Besides, they must be moralistic in general and be committed and obsessed about their personal belief. Also, whistleblowers must have a strong will and a propensity to rely on morals practices that emphasize rights. These characters must be ready to go against the standard social conventions by mainly relying on their attitudes and beliefs. Those determined to be whistleblowers must not yearn for public attention but rather be concerned about letting campus stakeholders understand the underlying happenings. And on our campus, such a student would probably come from Student Senate. Arguably, a whistleblower from our Student Senate would be more impactful since he or she would expose to the ordinary students what happens at the body made to represent them. Thus, a whistleblower must possess specific characteristics for practical exposure, and such a person should better come from the Student Senate on our campus.
