One of the main benefits of e-cigarettes is the lack of filters, which among the primary sources of waste in cigarettes. Filters are mostly tossed on sidewalks, streets, and water sources. Even when they are disposed of properly, cigarette butts end up in landfills, and their toxin seeps into the soil. It is estimated that a billion cigarette butts are tossed away annually. Since e-cigarettes have no synthetic filters, they reduce the rate of toxins in the environment. Notably, e-cigarettes do not emit second-hand smoke. While the smoke emitted by traditional cigarettes affects those around smokers, vaping does not produce second –hand smoke, which means it does not pose severe threats to the atmosphere. It should be noted that vaping produced minimal amounts of toxins into the atmosphere compared to traditional cigarettes since vaping liquid lacks the artificial and dangerous additives seen in cigarettes.

Even with the mounting evidence that supports the notion that vaping is safer compared to traditional cigarettes, some argue that vaping has severe health and environmental effects on society and maintain that its use should be discontinued. In an article, Trump Pledge to Ban Flavored E-Cigarettes, the author reveals that the President has pledged to prohibit the use of e-cigarettes, following an escalation of cases of lung disease. According to the President, the use of flavors such as menthol, mango, and cucumber has continually increased the number of underage and young smokers in the United States, which is a worrying trend considering the health implications of vaping (Tanne 1). Studies conducted by the FDA show that the overall rate of tobacco and e-cigarette use among the youth increased by seventy-eight percent in 2017 and 2018. These figures show that high school and middle school students are among the highest consumers of e-cigarettes. There is also evidence that companies that produce e-cigarettes rarely follow the stipulations of the governments, which means most of these products are illegally marketed and thus unsafe for consumption. Vaping is further linked to the increasing cases of respiratory issues and deaths among young people.
Further, because vaping is a relatively new invention, some posit that questions concerning its effects on human health and the environment are still unanswered. It is still unclear what implications the long-term use of e-cigarettes have on the human body, which means it is impossible for modern society to argue that e-cigarettes are safer than traditional cigarettes. It should also be noted that while vaping delivers less nicotine into the human body, it does not mean e-cigarettes are safe. First, regardless of how much nicotine is consumed by smokers and vapers, the effects of this chemical on the human body are irrefutable. With time, vapers can develop the same health complications as smokers of traditional cigarettes. With this in mind, the arguments that e-cigarettes are safer than traditional cigarettes are unfounded and inconclusive. It should, however, be noted that current studies comparing the two products have shown that vaping is a more effective strategy that can be used by chronic smokers seeking to quit this habit and smokers willing to protect the environment from the toxins released by traditional cigarettes.

Even with the current debate surrounding the efficacy of e-cigarettes, studies have shown that vaping is safer than traditional cigarettes. Unlike traditional cigarettes, e-cigarettes do not contain nicotine, which is among the leading causes of lung cancer and other serious health complications among smokers.
